چکیده

The automatic recognition of typical pattern sequences (scenarios), as they are developing, is of crucial importance for computer-aided patient supervision. However, the construction of such scenarios directly from medical expertise is unrealistic in practice. In this paper, we present a methodology for data abstraction and for the extraction of specific events (data mining) to eventually construct such scenarios. Data abstraction and data mining are based on the management of three key concepts, data, information and knowledge, which are instantiated via an ontology specific of our medical domain application. After a detailed description of the proposed methodology, we apply it to the supervision of patients hospitalized in intensive care units. We report the results obtained for the extraction of typical abstracted pattern sequences during the process of weaning from mechanical ventilation. Copyright # 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

A Multi-layered Synergistic Approach to Motion Planning with Complex Goals

This paper describes an approach for solving motion planning problems for mobile robots involving temporal goals. The temporal goals are described over subsets of the workspace (called propositions) using temporal logic. The approach uses an instantiation of a multi-layered synergistic planning framework that has been proposed recently. In this framework, a high-level planner constructs high-le...

Modelling and Analysis of a Multi-Agent Intelligent Tutoring System Based on Coloured Petri Nets

Nowadays multi-agents systems have been extensively used for the construction of intelligent tutoring systems, due to the high abstraction level. The MATHEMA model consists of an architecture to design of multi-agent systems based learning environments. In this paper we present the modelling and analysis of the MATHEMA using Coloured Petri Nets, scenarios, message sequence charts, temporal logi...

Agent-Based Refinement for Predicate Abstraction of Multi-Agent Systems

We put forward an agent-based refinement methodology for the verification of infinite-state Multi-Agent Systems by predicate abstraction. We use specifications defined in a three-valued variant of the temporal epistemic logic ATLK. We define “failure states” as candidates for refinement, and provide a sound automatic procedure for their identification. Further, we introduce a methodology based ...

An integrated simulation-DEA approach to multi-criteria ranking of scenarios for execution of operations in a construction project

The purpose of this study is to examine different scenarios for implementing operations in the pre-construction phase of a project, based on several competing criteria with different importance levels in order to achieve a more efficient execution plan. This paper presents a new framework that integrates discrete event simulation (DES) and data envelopment analysis (DEA) to rank different scena...

Supporting multi-level multi-perspective dynamic decision making in medicine

Most medical decision problems are exceedingly complex and contain a large number of variables. Abstraction facilitates the process of building a decision model by allowing a model builder to work at a level of detail that he is most comfortable with; it is also useful in time-critical situations or when there is insufficient data to support complete specification of probabilities of the uncert...
